Info for First
Time Users:
Prior to commencing use of the facility, investigators are encouraged to meet with the facility manager to discuss experiment plans. As the facility is now offering sample preparation as an additional service, investigator involvement can range from non existent to very “hands on”. Investigators planning to use the benchtop flow cytometers (Beckman Coulter XL-MCL or Dako-Cytomation CyAn) are encouraged to learn the operation of the instrument; training is provided. For those who are unable to do so, data collection will be performed by the facility personnel. It is the responsibility of the Core lab to perform instrument quality control and maintenance. However, each investigator is responsible for the quality control of the application being run, review of the data produced, and ultimately, the final data analysis. Investigators wishing to initiate a flow cytometry based project should contact the core facility via phone, (312) 908-1294, or e-mail, J-marvin@northwestern.edu .
Data Analysis Options
/ Data File Maintenance:
In addition
to the instrument data collection and analysis software, the core
facility has additional software packages, which can be used for
data analysis. These are Modfit (Verity Software House)
for cell cycle distribution analysis, Expo (Applied Cytometry
Systems) and Winlist (Verity Software House) for listmode data
analysis, and Powerpoint for graphics production. Listmode
data files are archived on CD-ROM by the facility personnel. Investigators
may bring their own media for data transfer (zip disk, recordable
CD-ROM) for off site analysis of data files. Facility staff
will train investigators in the use of the data analysis software
programs for the purpose of data reanalysis or graphics production.
Alternatively, should the staff be requested to perform the work,
a fee will be assessed (see Fees
Table ).
