  The IRIS service charges for use. Currently, ORSP has subscribed to this service, making it available to the Northwestern community. The IRIS database contains over 7,000 federal and non-federal funding opportunities in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities.

Searchable Grant and Researcher Databases

• Community of Science (COS). COS makes a wealth of information available on the web. They make the following searchable databases available free to the research community:
  • A world-wide database of researchers and expertise (please add yourself to their database! This is a free service)
  • A database of US patents!
    
  • A database of inventions at universities and R&D organizations in the United States.
  • A database of facilities and resources available at universities and R&D organizations in the United States.
  • A list of links for federally funded grants
    
  • A searchable interface to the Federal Register provides a uniform system for making available regulations and legal notices issued by Federal agencies. These include Presidential proclamations and Executive Orders and Federal agency documents having general applicability and legal effect, documents required to be published by act of Congress and other Federal agency documents of public interest.
  • The Commerce Business Daily (CBD) lists notices of proposed government procurement actions, contract awards, sales of government property, and other procurement information.

  The CRISP (Computer Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects) System is a major biomedical database containing information on research ventures supported by the United States Public Health Service (US-PHS). CRISP also contains information on intramural research programs of the NIH and FDA.
• A gopher search of CRIS/USDA database. CRIS/USDA contains information on ongoing and recently completed projects sponsored or conducted primarily within the USDA and State university research system. Some 30,000 project summaries, including latest progress reports and lists of recent publications coming out of the research, are maintained in the file on an ongoing basis.
